West 16th Street

Family Apartment Renovation, West Village, NYC

Overview

A full renovation of a postwar condo off Fifth Avenue, redesigned for a working couple with two young children. The project involved combining two smaller apartments into one cohesive home, improving layout, storage, and spatial proportions. A soft, layered palette and bespoke millwork were introduced throughout to create a calm, unified interior that supports everyday family life.

Design Highlights

  • Reconfigured layout unified two units and improved proportions, circulation, and natural light.
  • One former kitchen was reimagined as a custom mudroom with built-in storage for bikes, strollers, and everyday items.
  • Bespoke kitchen with a multifunctional island for meal prep, casual dining, and concealed storage.
  • Warm grey palette and tactile finishes brought quiet continuity throughout the apartment.
  • Home office was designed to support remote work and household organization without compromising openness.
  • Lighting, materials, and architectural details were refined to create smooth transitions among living zones.

Outcome

A West Village apartment renovation that feels ordered, cohesive, and personal while accommodating the practical needs of urban family living without sacrificing architectural clarity or calm.
