East 61st Street

Full Apartment Renovation, Upper East Side, NYC

Overview

A full renovation of a postwar apartment for a busy professional. The original layout lacked cohesion, with limited storage and tight circulation. We restructured the plan, introduced custom cabinetry, layered lighting, and specified natural materials throughout.

Design Highlights

  • Extended custom kitchen cabinetry along a previously unused dining wall to add storage and architectural rhythm

  • Reconfigured the layout to open the kitchen to the living area, improving flow and natural light
– Introduced a ceiling drop with recessed lighting and pendant fixtures to soften transitions and add depth

  • Bathrooms redesigned with tactile surfaces and updated fixtures to support daily function and comfort

  • A palette of handmade tiles, natural wood finishes, and soft contrast grounded the apartment in warmth and architectural restraint

Outcome

This Upper East Side apartment now feels grounded, cohesive, and personal, with a well-planned kitchen, improved circulation, and materials that are both durable and enjoyable to live with. The result was a space designed for real life, and a genuine sense of home.
