Condominium Renovation, Upper West Side, NYC

Overview

A complete reconfiguration of a postwar condominium for a couple on the Upper West Side. The renovation transformed the apartment’s flow and atmosphere, opening the kitchen, enlarging the primary bath, and rebalancing the plan for greater light and coherence. Every detail, from the cabinetry to the lighting and floor transitions, was reconsidered to create a calm, connected home.

Design Highlights

  • The kitchen reimagined as a social and functional center, with the wall opened on three sides to improve connection, daylight, and flow.
  • Custom inset cabinetry extended along the former dining wall, incorporating glass-fronted uppers for display and balance.
  • Two bathrooms fully rebuilt: the primary in Nero Marquina and Thassos marble for contrast and structure, the secondary in Thassos and Azul Cielo for calmness and tone.

  • Custom vanities, polished nickel fittings, and integrated storage designed to complement each bath’s distinct material language.
  • A new lighting and electrical plan layered architectural, ambient, and task illumination throughout.
  • Quarter-sawn oak flooring introduced warmth and visual continuity, anchoring the refined material palette.

Outcome

A thoughtfully restructured apartment that balances modern livability with material restraint. The new plan enhances flow and optimizes both natural and evening light, while the palette of marble, oak, and hand-finished cabinetry creates quiet rhythm and permanence. The result is a composed, enduring home that feels both tailored and deeply comfortable.
