Why we design in elevation

South elevation for our East 87th Street kitchen, resolving proportions and alignments ahead of construction.

We design in elevation to ensure a room is fully considered before it is built. Beyond the floor plan, elevations allow proportion, alignment, and material relationships to be examined precisely. A floor plan shows how a space is used; an elevation shows how everything meets on the wall — heights, junctions, and alignment.

At our East 87th Street kitchen, we worked through the relationship between oak drawers, painted cupboards, and glass fronts in elevation before construction began. Drawer heights, counter lines, and material junctions were resolved on paper so the built result reads as coordinated and clear.

Designing in elevation connects drawing to construction. That is why we design in elevation.
